Once there were two women,
They never knew each other.
One you do not remember,
The other you call mother.
Two different lives,
Shaped to make your one.
One bore the pain of giving,
The other became your sun.
The first gave you life,
The second helped you live it.
The first gave you a need for love;
the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality;
The other gave you a name.
One seeded you with talent;
The other gave you an aim.
|
One gave you emotions,
The other calmed your fears.
One first saw you smile,
The other dried your tears.
One gave you up--
That's all that she could do.
The other prayed you'd come,
And God lead her straight to you!
And now you ask me
(You can't ask the other)
The natural question--
"Who is my real mother?"
And I answer, "neither."
For, sent from above,
You are doubly blessed
With two different kinds of love!
